- Windows and Linux
Answer
Deactivating a Tableau Server license (product key) is often needed for the following reasons:
- Activated the product key on the wrong server
- Testing and want to use the key on another test environment
- Switching to a new type of license such as Updatable Subscription License (USL)
On Windows with Tableau Server version 2018.2 and newer:
Using TSM CLI, see Deactivate Product Key --> Use the TSM CLI tab
On Linux:
Using TSM CLI, see Deactivate Product Key --> Use the TSM CLI tab
Via the TSM Web UI:
Using the TSM Web UI, see Deactivate Product Key --> Use the TSM web interface tab
Note for both Windows and Linux: If you do not have an Internet connection, you are prompted to create an offline return file to complete the deactivation process. For more information, see Offline Activation.Additional Information
Because the Tableau Server license is allowed to be activated on up to three installations with one being production, deactivating the product key on an installation is appropriate in order to free up the activation allotment available for new installations.
