How to connect Tableau Desktop to Redshift through IAM authentication using Okta

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Amazon Redshift

Answer

  1. Start Tableau Desktop and under Connect, select Amazon Redshift. For a complete list of data connections, select More under To a Server.
  2. Enter the name of the server that hosts the database and the name of the database you want to connect to.
  3. Enter the user name and password.
  4. Select the Require SSL check box.
  5. Select the Advanced tab and enter custom driver parameters to modify the connection. For example: IAM=1; plugin_name=okta; IdP_Host=example.okta.com; App_ID=mQkRaOqFRNy5hAc262lW;
  6. Select Sign In.
