Question

How to connect Tableau Desktop to a BigQuery dataset when the member does not have project permissions?

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Google BigQuery

Answer

After selecting the Google BigQuery connector in Tableau Desktop and signing in to the Google account, on the data source page in Tableau Desktop, in the Project drop-down list, instead of selecting a project, enter the project ID manually.
Note: When you do not have project permissions, the project does not appear in the drop-down list.
  1. Click the + sign next to the Project form.
  2. The Dataset drop-down list should then appear, and you should be able to see the datasets for which you have at least viewer permissions.
  3. Carry out the remaining steps to make the connection and set up the data source.
