Question

How to access Tableau Server after installing it.

Environment

Tableau Server

Answer

To access Tableau Server from a computer other than the one running Tableau Server or from the Tableau Mobile App, use the Tableau Server computer name or IP address in the URL.
To find the computer name:
  1. On the computer running Tableau Server, click Start, right-click Computer, and then select Properties.
  2. Note the name listed under Computer name.
If Tableau Server is configured to use a port other than the default (port 80), you must include the port number in the URL. To find the port number:

For Tableau Server on Windows 2018.2 or newer or Tableau Server on Linux:
  1. Login to Tableau Server as Server Administrator
  2. Select Status
  3. Under the Process Status tab, hover over the Green Checkmark to the right of Gateway
  4. You should see a popup in format "<computername>:<portnumber>"
Alternatively, you can find the port via the TSM command

tsm topology list-ports
  • Under the Name column, look for the process name "gateway:primary" and the port number will appear on this line

For Tableau Server on Windows version 2018.1 or earlier:
  1. On the computer running Tableau Server, click Start All Programs > Tableau Server <version> > Configure Tableau Server.
  2. The port number is shown in the Gateway section under General.

On the computer or device from which you want to access Tableau Server, type the following URL into the browser:
  • If you are using the default port:  http://<computername>.
  • If you are using a custom port: http://<computername>:<port number>.
