What are the alternatives if there is no native connector available for a data source in Tableau?

Environment

  • Tableau Server

Answer

If there is no native connector available in Tableau, possible workarounds are below:

Workaround 1

Obtain a third-party connector


Workaround 2

Obtain an ODBC driver (either from Microsoft or third-party) and connect via the Other Databases (ODBC) connector


Workaround 3

Obtain a JDBC driver (either from Microsoft or third-party) and connect via the Other Databases (JDBC) connector

Workaround 4

Check to see if you can connect via the OData connector
Note: Currently, the username and password is the only available authentication method

Workaround 5

Obtain (if exist) or self-develop a Web Data Connector.
