How to add pictures for every row in a table that changes with filter 

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop

Answer

  1. Create a view with the field to be shown on rows
  2. Add all the measures on columns
  3. Create a calculated fled named Placeholder with a calculation of 1
  4. Drag the Placeholder field to the right of measures on columns shelf
  5. Change the aggregation to MIN
  6. In the Marks card for Placeholder, change the Mark type to Shape and drag the dimension to Shape.
  7. In the C:\Users\XXX\Documents\My Tableau Repository\Shapes create a new folder named test and put the related pictures in test and
  8. Click on Shapes in Marks card for the placeholder. Choose the shape palette as test and assign shapes
  9. Change the size of shapes.
  10. If you want to the show the top 3, add the dimension to filter and configure to show top 3 by chosen measure value.
