Issue

How to jitter, or slightly alter the values of marks to prevent overlapping in a plot.

Environment

Tableau Desktop

Resolution

  • Use transparency to show dense or overlapping points of data.
  • Use the size field to show overlapping points.
  • Create a jitter-style plot using the instructions in the attached workbook.

Cause

The ability to jitter points is not functionality currently available in Tableau Desktop.
