Error "This workbook contains a data source that is dependent on a different Tableau Server" Publishing Workbook with Local Extracts

Issue

When publishing a workbook that contains local extracts that are dependent on published data sources, the following error might occur:

"This workbook contains a data source that is dependent on a different Tableau Server"

Environment

Tableau Desktop
Tableau Cloud
Tableau Server

Resolution

Option 1

When publishing your workbook to Tableau Server, ensure you are using "https://" before the server name in the publishing window.

Option 2

Follow the steps in Moving Individual Workbooks From One Server to Another Server.
Note: To overwrite the previous version, ensure the workbook name is the same and is in the same Project as the original.

Option 3

If all the data sources in the workbook point to a single site, follow the steps below:

Open a new workbook in Tableau Desktop
Open a second copy of Tableau Desktop, and open the workbook which generates the error.
Copy sheet from original workbook by right-clicking the worksheet tab
Paste the sheet into the new workbook
Repeat for each worksheet
Publish the new workbook

Cause

The workbook may contain an extract associated with a published data source linked to a different Tableau Server name. Usually this occurs after migrating or renaming Tableau Server.
