Error "The Google BigQuery Service has denied access for this request" Appears For Specific Users When Viewing Dashboard

Problème

When a specific user views a workbook which uses Google BigQuery as a data source, the following error appears:
The Google BigQuery service has denied access for this request.
Access Denied: Project <project name>: The user <user email> does not have bigquery.jobs.create permission in project <project name>.
Unable to connect to the Google BigQuery Server "googleapis.com/bigquery:. Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database.  

Environnement

  • Tableau Cloud
  • Google BigQuery

Résolution

The following solutions are the most common causes but not all possible causes.  Please open a ticket with Tableau Technical Support if the following does not resolve your issue:

Option 1

Remove the BigQuery credentials with the account that is experiencing the issue in Tableau Cloud (My Account Settings > Saved Credentials)

Option 2

Ensure the bigquery.jobs.create and bigquery.jobs.view permissions are enabled for all users who are accessing the view in the Google BigQuery permissions.

Cause

This may be related to the lack of permission for the users on Google BigQuery.
