Issue

Incremental refresh using Tableau Bridge Client fails with the below error message:

Failed to refresh data source: [Data Source Name] due to the following error: Publish failure.

Environment

  • Tableau Cloud
  • Tableau Bridge Client
  • Incremental Refresh

Resolution

Use one of the below options to workaround the issue:

Option 1 Recreate the join using the physical join canvas instead of the relationship canvas
  1. Download the affected data source and open it in Tableau Desktop.
  2. Right-click the data source and select Edit Data Source
  3. Remove all joined tables and double click the first table to access the join canvas.
  4. Recreate the joins on the join canvas. See Join Your Data for more information.
  5. Go to a sheet, right-click the data source, select Extract Data, and ensure the Logical Tables option is selected.
  6. Finish creating the incremental extract and republish the data source to Tableau Cloud.

Option 2 Use a full extract refresh instead of an incremental refresh.

Cause

An incremental refresh is not yet supported in Tableau Bridge Client for data sources containing logical layer relationship joins.
