How do determine which product key should be activated on Tableau Server when performing an offline activation.

The Tableau Customer Portal contains the product key that should be activated when performing an offline activation. The product keys in the Tableau Customer Portal should always be the keys activated on Tableau Server. When in an offline mode, there may be a key different than the one initially provided that should be used in an offline activation or disconnected environment.

1. Navigate to the Tableau Customer Portal where your Portal Administrator can access Product keys (Licenses) and associated Offline Activation IDs for your organization's active Tableau subscriptions.

2. Click on the Deployment tab and identify the record that corresponds to your Tableau Server Deployment. Select the Deployment Name to view the licensing details for your deployment.

In most cases, the Deployment Name will match the "Tenant Name" reflected on your most recent order form.
The terms Tenant and Deployment are synonymous, and represent a collection of licensed products designated for use within a single production environment and its associated non-production environments.

3. Within the Deployment Detail view, navigate to Deployment Assets and identify your Tableau Server product key. Select the Server product key to view the License Detail page.

4. On the License Detail page, identify the Offline Activation ID; this is the key that must be used to activate or update licensing for your Tableau Server in an offline environment.

The Offline Activation ID should always be used for activating the product in an offline environment. Keep in mind, with the Updatable Subscription License (USL) model and using an offline activation, the product key name in the Tableau Customer Portal will not match the product key shown on Tableau Server. On the other hand, the Offline Activation ID should always match the license showing on the Tableau Server unless there has been a change to the USL product key and a new activation must occur.

The product key viewed in the Tableau Customer Portal will never change and can be used to align with offline Activation ID changes over time. For more information on the USL key, review the Tableau Online Help.

Important: Tableau Server will not show the proper license configuration unless the prior key is removed via a deactivation when in an offline environment as noted in this article.
