Creating a Map with Color Gradients

Question

How to create a map that colors by a dimension and includes a gradient based on a measure.

Environment

Tableau Desktop 

Answer

  1. In Tableau Desktop, connect to Sample - Superstore data.
  2. In Dimensions, double-click State.
  3. On Marks, select the Map mark type.
  4. In Measures, right-click Sales, and then select Duplicate.
  5. Right-click Sales (copy), and then select Convert to Discrete.
  6. Shift-click Sales (copy) and Region, and then drag both fields to Color.
Note: You can only drag multiple fields to Color when the fields are discrete.
