Question

How to create a map of a single state.

Environment

Tableau Desktop

Answer

Use one of the following fixes.

Option 1

  1. In Tableau Desktop, connect to Superstore sample data.
  2. Double-click State.
  3. Zoom in to the desired state.
  4. In the drop-down menu on the Marks card, select Map.
  5. Drag State from Dimensions to Filters, select only the desired state, and then click OK.
  6. Select Map > Map Layers. Uncheck map layers as desired.

Option 2

  1. Use a custom background image of the desired state. For more information, see Use Background Images in Your Views in Tableau Help.
  2. Build the view in a way that matches the x and y mappings you specified for the image.
