Question

How to overlay latitude and longitude data points from a database over a color-coded shapefile on a dual axis map.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Excel

Answer

Use one of the following workarounds:
  • Convert shape files in GIS to csv or Excel polygon data which has database latitude and longitude values. This file can then be joined with the other Excel data and used.
  • Convert the point data to a shape file in GIS, and join with the other shape file data.
  • Create one of the maps as a Mapbox map and import it as a background image. This map will not be interactive.
