Resolving “Tableau Server initialization failed” Error

When you try to install Tableau Server, you may encounter a “Tableau Server initialization failed” error message. This message displays when you are installing Tableau Server to a path that contains characters that are not 7-bit ASCII. Characters and symbols that are used in English text are 7-bit ASCII. Typically, characters and symbols that are used in non-English text are not 7-bit ASCII. For example, installation paths that contain characters that are not 7-bit ASCII may look like the following:

To resolve this issue, install Tableau Server to the default directory that Tableau Server specifies during installation. For example, C:\Program Files\Tableau \Tableau Server.
