Last Modified Date: 13 Jan 2018

Issue

After upgrading to Tableau Server 10.5, you can no longer give site members one of the "can publish" roles.
  • Users with the Viewer (can publish) site role have a Viewer site role after upgrade.
  • Users with the Unlicensed (can publish) role have an Unlicensed site role after upgrade.

Environment

  • Tableau Server 10.5
  • Tableau Online

Resolution

Users should be assigned the Publisher site role in order to publish. For more information about these assignments, see Set User's Site Roles in Tableau Help.

Cause

The "Viewer (can publish)" and "Unlicensed (can publish)" roles have been deprecated and are no longer available.
