UTF-8 Error Restoring Data From Backup in Norwegian Bokmål Locale

Issue

In Norwegian Bokmål locale, when you try to restore data from a backup in Tableau Server 8.1 or 8.2, one of the following errors might occur:
 
pg_restore: [archiver (db)] Error from TOC entry 3789; 1262 16386 DATABASE workgroup tblwgadmin 
Or:
pg_restore: [archiver (db)] could not execute query: ERROR: invalid byte sequence for encoding "UTF8": 0xe5 0x6c 0x29 
Or:
Command was: CREATE DATABASE workgroup WITH TEMPLATE = template0 ENCODING = 'UTF8' LC_COLLATE = 'Norwegian (Bokmål)_Norway.1252' LC_CTYPE... 
Or:
pg_restore: [archiver (db)] could not execute query: ERROR: database "workgroup" does not exist 
Or:
Command was: ALTER DATABASE workgroup OWNER TO tblwgadmin; 
Or:
pg_restore: [archiver (db)] could not reconnect to database: FATAL: database "workgroup" does not exist 
 
 

Environment

  • Tableau Server
  • Norwegian Bokmål locale

Resolution

Upgrade to Tableau Server 8.1.20, 8.2.12, 8.3.7, 9.0.3, or a later version. For more information, see Upgrading Tableau Server.

Cause

This behavior is a known issue that has been corrected in more recent releases.
