User Filters Incorrectly Applied to User Accounts in Multiple Groups

Published: 28 Apr 2014

Issue

When a user account belongs to multiple groups, user filters might display more data than expected.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Tableau Server
  • User Filters
  • User account belonging to multiple groups

Resolution

Remove any conflicting user filter settings.

For example, if one group is set to view only a specific region, while another group is able to see all regions, any user account belonging to both groups will have access to all regions. If the user account should be able to see one region, remove the user filter setting for the group that can see all regions. If the user account should see all regions, remove the user filter setting for the group that can see only one region.

Cause

If two different groups are set to display different members of a dimension through a user filter, any user that belongs to both groups will be able to see all the combined members from each group.
