User Display Names Do Not Update after an Active Directory Sync

When synchronizing users with a updated Display Name in Active Directory, the display names do not change in Tableau Server.


Tableau Server 9.0.3 - 9.0.4


Option 1

  1. Upgrade to Tableau Server 9.0.6 and later versions. For more information, see Upgrading Tableau Server
  2. Open a command prompt as administrator, navigate to the Tableau Server bin directory and run the following commands:
tabadmin stop
tabadmin set vizportal.adsync.update_system_user true
tabadmin configure
tabadmin start

Option 2

Delete any affected users from Tableau Server and then re-import from the Active Directory.



This behavior is related to a known issue that has been corrected in more recent releases.
