Unexpected Fiscal Month Value When Exporting Data to Access DB

Published: 24 Mar 2017
Last Modified Date: 20 Sep 2017

Issue

After setting a month as "Fiscal Year start" (for example: July) and exporting the worksheet to Access DB (via Workseet > Export > Data), the month data returned corresponds to the Start month instead of the calendar month.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop 10.1.5
  • Microsoft Access Database

Resolution

To see the text names of months in the export, the following caluclated field should be used:
 DATENAME('month',[Order Date])
(Replace [Order Date] by your own date dimension)

Similarly,to view quarters as "Q1", "Q2", etc, a calculated field similar to the following can be used:
 "Q" + DATENAME('quarter',[Order Date])
(Replace [Order Date] by your own date dimension)

Cause

Date-parts are exported as integers even when "Fiscal Year Start" is not set. This behavior is occuring by design. For more information about fiscal dates, see Fiscal Dates in Tableau Help.
