"Unexpected Error Cannot connect to Tableau Server" Connecting to Google Analytics, Sheets or BigQuery

Issue

When attempting to connect to a Google data source, such as Analytics, Sheets or BigQuery from Tableau Desktop, the following errors may occur:
Unexpected Error
Cannot connect to Tableau Server. Please check the server name and port and try again
The signature of the certificate is invalid.


OR

The issuer certificate of a locally looked up certificate could not be found
No certificates could be verified

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Google Analytics, Sheets or BigQuery

Resolution

Clear saved Server sign-ins in Tableau Desktop:
  1. Ensure that there is only one instance of Tableau Desktop open on your computer - If there are other instances of Tableau Desktop open, close them. 
  2. In Tableau Desktop, select Help > Settings and Performance > Clear Saved Server Sign-ins 
  3. Try to connect to Google data source from Tableau Desktop 

Cause

A stored authentication token or saved sign-in credentials are interfering with the authentication process.
