Unable to Set the Number of Slots A Custom SQL Query Uses in Redshift

Issue

When using a Redshift data source from Tableau Desktop, you are unable to set the number of slots that a custom SQL query will use.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Redshift

Resolution

Tableau Desktop is unable to change the configuration of data sources. By design, Tableau Desktop is a read-only program to ensure that users will not accidentally overwrite important data or break the database.

Cause

Redshift does not have a way to set the number of slots either in the connection to a data source or in the query itself.
