Issue

When setting the My Tableau Repository location, one or more of the following errors might occur:

Cannot currently access your Tableau repository at:
The workbooks and connections in your repository will be unavailable.

Or:

Unable to copy to non-existent directory 'Styles' to 'C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau [version]\defaults\Styles'

Or:

Path does not exist.
Check the path and try again.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Windows OS

Resolution

Tableau Desktop must be opened as an administrator in order to access the My Tableau Repository folder.

Cause

Root cause is unknown. Tableau Desktop does not require administrator permissions to access the My Tableau Repository folder. Possible cause is a local IT policy requiring the application to run as administrator to access those files.

Additional Information

The existing My Tableau Repository folder in the default location might also be unavailable.
