EnvironmentTableau Desktop 10.0 - 10.1
Option 1Upgrade to Tableau Desktop 10.2. For more information, see Upgrading Tableau Desktop.
Option 2Try one of the following workarounds:
- Use Data blending. For details, see Blend Your Data.
- Use Custom SQL. For more information, see Connect to a Custom SQL Query.
CauseStarting with Tableau Desktop 10.2, the ability to customize joins using calculations was added to the product to resolve format mismatches between fields. For more information, see What's new in Tableau Desktop and Join Your Data.
For earlier Tableau Desktop versions, the ability to join on calculated fields was not built into Tableau Desktop. When tables or data sources are joined, a query reflecting the join is sent to the data source. Calculated Fields exist at the workbook level, not the data source level.
Additional InformationNot all data sources are available for cross-database joins. For more information, see Combine tables from different databases.
