- Tableau Server
- Trusted tickets
- SAML
Resolution
This is expected behavior. Embedded views authenticated using trusted tickets bypass the VizPortal process and a log entry is not made in the Tableau Sever Repository, the source of record for the Admin Views.Cause
The Traffic to Views report is based on the historical_events table in the Tableau Server Postgres repository. This table is updated when a user logs in to the Tableau Server directly from the browser interface. This interface is run by the VizPortal process which handles user authentication. When the authenticated user views a workbook, the VizQL process loads and renders the view.In instances where SAML is used for authentication, and the view is embedded, the HTTP request comes from outside of Tableau Server and is authenticated by the Identity Provider (IdP). The IdP tells the Tableau Server to authenticate the user without the user directly interacting with the VizPortal process. Therefore a user connecting using a trusted ticket would not create an entry to historical_events table and the Traffic to Views admin view would not count that as a view.
