Issue

After you upgrade to Tableau Server 8.1 or a later version, Tableau Server might become slow or inaccessible, and it might use 100% of the CPU on the computer running Tableau Server.

Environment

  • Tableau Server 8.1 and later versions
  • Antivirus software

Resolution

  1. Exclude all Tableau Server directories from antivirus scans. For more information, see Improving Performance by Using Antivirus Exclusions.
  2. Stop Tableau Server: On the Windows Start menu of the computer running Tableau Server, navigate to All Programs > Tableau Server <version>, and then click Stop Tableau Server.
  3. Restart the computer running Tableau Server.
  4. Start Tableau Server: On the Windows Start menu of the computer running Tableau Server, navigate to All Programs > Tableau Server <version>, and then click Start Tableau Server.

Cause

Antivirus scans are causing CPU to spike on the computer running Tableau Server.
