Tableau's Hyperd.exe Process Quits Unexpectedly When Using Symantec Endpoint Protection
Published: 24 Jan 2018
Last Modified Date: 05 Feb 2018
Issue
When using Tableau Desktop or Server 10.5 or later versions and Symantec Endpoint Protection, Tableau's hyperd.exe process quits unexpectedly. This may manifest in the following ways:
- When performing a query to the Data Engine, you may be notified that the query could not be completed.
or
- You may be notified that the connection to the data source was lost and asked if you would like to reconnect it.
Environment
- Tableau Desktop
- Tableau Server
- Symantec Endpoint Protection
- .hyperd.exe process
Resolution
Option 1
Update Symantec Endpoint Protection definitions to latest version.
Option 2
Exclude all Tableau Desktop processes, including hyperd.exe, from Symantec Endpoint Protection.
Cause
Symantec Endpoint Protection's "sysfer.dll" is injected into the hyperd.exe process, causing it to crash.
