Issue

After copy and pasting a tabcmd command, options are ignored or treated as file inputs.
 For example, the following command ignores the -t option:

C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau Server\10.3\extras\Command Line Utility>tabcmd login -s madeup.example.com -u <username> -p <password> -t Site1
===== Creating new session
=====     Server:   http://madeup.example.com
=====     Username: <username>
===== Connecting to the server...
===== Signing in...
===== Auto-sign in to site: Default
===== Creating new session
=====     Server:   http://madeup.example.com
=====     Username: <username>
===== Connecting to the server...
===== Signing in...
===== Succeeded
===== Succeeded

You may also see an error like the following:

C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau Server\10.3\extras\Command Line Utility>tabcmd refreshextracts --project Default --workbook Superstore
  *** Unrecognized option: -?project

Environment

  • Tableau Server

Resolution

Re-enter commands manually into command line to ensure proper "-" dash characters are input on the command line.

Cause

Pasting commands from another  application into the command prompt may not translate the "-" characters appropriately, causing the command to not be interpreted correctly.
