Sync Client Not Saving UNC Paths for Multi Connection Data Source

When updating the paths for flat files in a multi-connection data source via Sync Client, the new UNC paths may not persist when saved. 


  • Tableau Online 
  • Sync Client


Regenerate the Tableau Online Sync Client configuration file and reconfigure the UNC paths via Sync Client. 
  1. Exit out of all instances of the Sync Client.
    • If using Run Continuously mode, open the Sync Client, select the Settings menu and select Run Only When Logged On.
    • Select the Settings menu, and select Exit.
  2. Regenerate the Sync Client configuration file. 
    • Navigate to C:\Users\username\Documents\My Tableau Repository\TabOnlineSyncClient
    • Rename the TabOnlineSyncClientConfiguration.txt file. 
    • Launch Tableau Desktop and start the Sync Client. 
  3. Reconfigure the UNC file paths for the data source in the Sync Client. See Change Sync Client Connection or Refresh Settings for more information.
