Slow Performance Filtering Dates in Cube Data Sources

Published: 17 Jun 2013
Last Modified Date: 20 Feb 2014

Issue

When you try to use relative and continuous date filters in cube data, performance is slow.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Tableau Server
  • Multi-dimensional (cube) data source

Resolution

Option 1:

Upgrade to Tableau Desktop 8.1.4 or a later version or Tableau Server 8.1.4 or a later version. For more information, see Upgrading Tableau Desktop and Upgrading Tableau Server in the Tableau knowledge base.

Option 2:

Try one of the following options:

  • Use context filters. Context filters can decrease the amount of data that is being filtered, which can increase performance. For more information, see Using Context Filters to Improve Performance in the Tableau knowledge base.
  • Use other date filter options, including filtering on discrete dates or filtering on a date hierarchy.
  • Use discrete dates rather than continuous dates.

Cause

This behavior is a known issue that has been corrected in more recent releases.
