Repeated Prompts for Redshift Credentials when Opening a Published View

Issue

When opening a workbook in Tableau Server with a live connection to a Redshift data source that was published with embedded credentials, Tableau Server prompts repeatedly for database credentials, even if proper credentials are supplied.

Environment

  • Tableau Server
  • Amazon Redshift

Resolution

Reconnect to Amazon Redshift in Tableau Desktop and choose Require SSL when establishing the connection. Then republish the data source and replace the original data source with the republished data source in the workbook.

Cause

When connecting to a Redshift server that uses SSL, Require SSL must be used in order for a connection from Tableau Server to the Redshift server to be successful.
