Issue
When connecting to Tableau Server internal PostgreSQL repository through Tableau Desktop, the following error occurs:
An error occurred while communicating with PostgreSQL Database. Unable to connect to the server. Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database.
Could not connect to the server; No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. [<server>:5432]
Unable to connect to the server "<server>". Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database.

Resolution
In the PostgreSQL connection window, change the port to 8060. Note: If Tableau Server is configured to use a port other than 8060 for its repository, use the port Tableau Server is configured for.
Cause
5432 is a commonly-used port for PostgreSQL connections, and Tableau Desktop may auto-fill the port when creating a new connection. The default port for Tableau Server's internal PostgreSQL repository is 8060.
