Nested Table Calculation Returns Unexpected Results After Upgrading

Issue

When you use a nested table calculation (a table calculation which refers to another table calculation), in a workbook created in Tableau Desktop 8.2 or 8.3, and both calculations appear in the view, the nested calculation may return unexpected results in Tableau Desktop 9.0.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop 9.0
  • Workbook created in Tableau Desktop 8.2 or 8.3

Resolution

Ensure that Compute using is set to the desired option for each table calculation. For more information, see Customizing Table Calculations.

Cause

In Tableau Desktop 8.2 and 8.3, nested table calculations would sometimes acquire the Compute using setting from other calculations that use the same underlying calculation. This behavior was changed in Tableau Desktop 9.0. Compute using properties must now be explicitly defined for each table calculation.
