Multiple RSYNC Processes Causing Performance Issues

Published: 03 Feb 2015
Last Modified Date: 17 Aug 2015

Issue

When multiple RSYNC processes are running simultaneously, you might experience performance issues due to high CPU usage.

Environment

  • Tableau Server 8.2.5 and earlier
  • Enterprise or High Usage Environment
  • 4 Cores on machine

Resolution

Option 1

Upgrade Tableau Server to 8.2.6 or a later version. For more information, see Upgrading Tableau Server.

Option 2

Increase the number of cores on the computer running Tableau Server to eight.  Eight cores is the minimum recommended for each machine in an Enterprise-sized distributed environment.

Cause

Due to insufficient system resources, RSYNC processes are unable to complete before new processes are called. When new processes start, system resources are allocated between them, compounding performance issues.

Additional Information

Starting in Tableau Server 8.2.6, the behavior of RSYNC has been modified to help mitigate performance issues.
