Issue

When connecting to Amazon Redshift using custom SQL, the metadata queries might run slowly.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop 8.1 and later
  • Amazon Redshift

Resolution

Download the attached .tdc file and save it in the Datasources folder of the Tableau Repository.

Cause

Tableau Desktop wraps the custom SQL query in a SELECT TOP 1 statement that may take a long time to run.

Additional Information

The attached file customizes the Redshift connection to improve the performance of the SELECT TOP 1 query.
