Published: 30 Jul 2013

Issue

When you try to restore Tableau Server from a backup, the following message might appear at the command prompt:

===== Database schema is different from the expected schema.  Use tabadmin validate_schema_signature for further investigation

When you run tabadmin validate_schema_signature, the following error might appear:

*** Error: Database Schema Signature is not valid. Expected <FILE LOCATION AND NAME>, Actual <FILE LOCATION AND NAME>

Environment

Tableau Server

Resolution

If there is no visible negative behavior in Tableau Server, you can ignore this message.

Additional Information

This message does not mean that there is an issue with the backup restoration or with Tableau Server. When restoring a backup, the schema validation makes several queries of the Repository database and makes a list of the results. It then compares the results to a known list of required information in the Repository database. The warning message will appear if there are any differences in the two lists.
