Mark Scale Skewed In Dual Axis View Where One Measure Displays All Null Data

Issue

In a dual axis view where the first measure contains all null data (For example, if the first measure is filtered so that only null data is displayed), the marks for the second measure will have their scale skewed.

 

Environment

Tableau Desktop

Resolution

Option 1: 

  1. Select Analysis > Create Calculated Field 
  2. Name the field, enter the following calculation, then click OK: 
    ZN([Measure Displaying Only Nulls])
  3. Place the newly created field on the view in place of the measure which is displaying only nulls. 


Option 2:

Swap the order of the axes. 


Option 3: 

Click on the gray" >x nulls..." indicator at the bottom left of the view, and select Display data at default position. 


 

Cause

This behavior is by design.
