Number of Records Does Not Exist

Issue

When building a workbook, you may see an invalid "Number of Records" field with the tooltip message: 

The field Number of Records does not exist in the database.

Tableau Desktop

Resolution

To resolve this issue, follow the procedure below.
  1. Create a new connection to the data source by selecting Data > Connect to data.
  2. Create an extract from the new connection by selecting the data source from the Data menu, and then selecting Extract Data.
  3. Select Data Replace Data Source. Note: If you are using Tableau Desktop 6.1 and earlier, follow the procedure in Option 1 of the Replacing a Data Source article.  
  4. Right-click the original (corrupted) data connection in the Data pane, and select Close

Cause

The issue can be caused by a corrupted data source connection.
