Issue

When Tableau data type is set as Number(decimal), or when Tableau Desktop is losing precision when data type is Number(Whole); you notice that double precision floating point numbers are showed as nulls  or as as #ERROR in Tableau Desktop.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop 9.2
  • Windows 7
  • IBM DB2
  • European Locale

Resolution

Option 1

Upgrade to Tableau Desktop 10.3.3 ; 10.2.5 ; 10.1.11 ; 10.0.13 or 9.3.18. For more information, see Upgrading Tableau Desktop in Tableau Help.

Option 2

As a workaround, iIf the data type is defined as Decimal in the database (instead of Double precision), fields are correctly recognized by Tableau Desktop.

Cause

This behavior is related to a known issue (ID: 634535) that has been fixed in a recent release of Tableau Desktop.
