The exact solution may differ depending on the desired outcome. Ultimately the filter on the dashboard needs to come from a worksheet which also has the additional filters needed for the desired relevant values.Determine which sheet a filter comes from
- Right-click the filter card on the dashboard and select Apply to Worksheets > Selected Sheets...
- In the "Apply Filter to Worksheets" dialog, there will be an option that is checked but grayed out. This is the worksheet the filter instance is associated with.
Option 1: Add the filter from a different worksheet
It matters which sheet a shared filter is added from. If there is a worksheet that has all of the additional filters to create the desired relevant values, then add the filter from that worksheet- Click the filter card on the dashboard to select it
- Click the x icon in the upper corner of the gray border
- Click the worksheet that the filter should come from to select it
- Click the down arrow in the upper corner of the gray border and select Filters > {filter name}
Option 2: Apply the other filters to the whole data source
Typically if the value list in one filter should be filtered by another filter, then that other filter should probably be applied to the worksheet as well. These steps are for adding the additional filter to all worksheets using the same data source, but you only need to add the additional filter to the worksheet where the "Only Relevant Values" filter is coming from.- Go to the sheet where the additional filter(s) is located
- Right-click on each filter and select Apply To Worksheets > All Using This Data Source
Cause
Filters are associated with a single sheet, and the "Only Relevant Values" configuration is based on the other filters on that sheet. Even when a filter is shared with multiple worksheets, the "Only Relevant Values" configuration will be based ONLY on the sheet the filter came from.For an example, see the dashboard "Original" in the workbook in the right-hand pane of this article. The [Segment] filter has been shared across "Sheet 1" and "Sheet 2." There are two instances of the [Segment] filter on the dashboard because the shared filter has been added from each worksheet on the dashboard.
Both the [Segment] filters have been configured to use "Only Relevant Values," but the "Segment (sheet 2)" filter is still showing all values. That is because the additional filter only exists on the "Sheet 1" worksheet.
