External Protocol (tabprotosrv) Process Consumes 100% CPU After Cancelling a Query In Tableau Desktop on Mac

Issue

 In Tableau Desktop 10.3 on a Mac computer, after canceling a query, you notice that CPU spikes to 99% or 100% or 100.1% and is never released.

Additionally, Tableau Desktop is responsive and it is possible to make changes to the view.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop 10.3.0
  • Mac OS

Resolution

Upgrade to Tableau Desktop 10.4.3 and 10.3.7. For more information, see Upgrading Tableau Desktop in Tableau Help.

Cause

This behavior is related to a known issue (ID: 704783) which has been fixed in a recent release of Tableau Desktop.
