Environment

Tableau Server

Resolution

Step 1

  1. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the Tableau Server bin directory. For example:
    • On a 32-bit computer: cd "C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau Server\<version>\bin"
    • On a 64-bit computer: cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Tableau\Tableau Server\<version>\bin"
  2. Verify that the Tableau Server bin directory contains only one activation.tlf file. If the directory contains more than one activation.tlf file, delete all older instances of the file.
  3. Activate Tableau Server.

Step 2

  1. If the above steps do not resolve the issue, create a new activation.tlf file.
  2. Activate Tableau Server using the new activation.tlf file. For more information, see Activating Tableau Offline.

Step 3

Cause

This error often occurs when the activation.tlf file has been used more than once or has become corrupted.
