Issue

When adding a worker node to a Tableau Server distributed environment, the following error might occur:

You're trying to install a worker (workername) that contains out-of-date cluster data. Completely uninstall and reinstall Tableau Server on that worker before adding it.

Environment

  • Tableau Server
  • Distributed / High Availability

Resolution

Completely remove all Tableau Server folders/directories from the worker computer.
  1. Uninstall the Tableau Server worker software from Start Menu > Control Panel > Programs and Features.
  2. Go to the directory where Tableau Server was installed and delete the Tableau Server folder.
  3. Delete the directory containing postgres and config information. By default this is located at C:\ProgramData\Tableau.
  4. Reinstall the Tableau Server worker software.

Cause

Tableau Server components had been previously installed on this computer and a clean reinstall was not performed.
