Error "Unable to open file <File Path>: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect" Connecting to Google Sheets

Issue

When you try to connect to a Google Sheets file which contains quotes in the filename, the following error occurs:
Unable to open file <File Path>: Unable to open file <File Path>: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
 

 

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop 10.0.0
  • Google Sheets

Resolution

As a workaround, remove quotes from the filename, or use the IMPORTRANGE() function in Google Sheets to mirror the contents of the file to a new file that does not contain quotes in the filename.  
 

Cause

This behavior is related to a known issue which is currently under investigation.
