Error "Unable to determine if the cluster is adequately licensed" When Starting Tableau Server

Issue

When starting Tableau Server from the command prompt, the following error message might occur, even when Tableau Server starts correctly:

Unable to determine if the cluster is adequately licensed. Run tabadmin licenses for details.

Environment

  • Tableau Server 8.3 and earlier versions
  • No additional errors 

Cause

This error is reported when some components finish starting before the licensing component finishes starting. If no other issues are experienced and Tableau Server starts correctly, this error can be disregarded.
