Error "Unable to connect to the server" Connecting to Oracle

Issue

When attempting to connect to an Oracle database, the following error occurs: 

Unable to connect to the server "{Oracle server name}". Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Oracle

Resolution

Install the Oracle driver from Driver Download specific to the version of Tableau Desktop being used. 
 

Cause

Incorrect version of the Oracle driver.
