Error "The stored procedure <name> does not return a result set..." When Attempting to Connect Teradata Stored Procedure

Issue

When attempting to Connect to Teradata Stored Procedure from Tableau Desktop, the following error message is received :

"The stored procedure "[DATABASE].[PROCEDURE_NAME]" does not return a result set, or the result set columns do not have names."

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Teradata
  • Stored procedure

Resolution

For Teradata data sources, please use a Cursor in Teradata Stored Procedure to return a Resultset back to Tableau.

 

Cause

Tableau needs a Result set generated from a Stored Procedure in order to be able show any table as an ouput.
