When connecting to MS SQL, or interacting with a workbook connected to a MS SQL data source, in Tableau Desktop for Mac, one of the following errors might occur:
[Simba][SqlServerODBC] (60) Response error: Connection failed

[Simba][SqlServerODBC] (60) Response error: Invalid object name '<#temp.table>'

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Mac OS X
  • MS SQL Server

  1. Uninstall the current Simba MS SQL driver.
  2. From the Drivers & Activation page, download the latest version of the Simba MS SQL driver.
  3. Follow the instructions on the Drivers & Activation page for installation.

This behavior is related to a known issue with the 1.0.24 Simba MS SQL Server driver.

Additional Information

To identify which version of the Simba driver is installed, search for "simba" in Finder or Spotlight. From the search results. navigate to Simba > sqlserverodbc, to locate the release notes (Release Notes.pdf or Release Notes.txt) for the driver. The release notes contain the version number of the driver.
  • Install version 1.0.23 or 1.0.25 and later.
  • Do not use 1.0.24

Refer to the section "Database drivers installed with Tableau Desktop" of the Before You Install Tableau Help page to know which Simba drivers are installed by default by Tableau Desktop on a Mac computer, along with their version.
