Error: "Sign in Failed" on Site-SAML Enabled For User With Multiple Accounts

Published: 28 Feb 2017
Last Modified Date: 06 Mar 2017

Issue

When site-SAML is enabled, the following error message might occur:
Sign in failed.

Additionally, the following error will show in the samlservice log file:
Unable to create SiteSAMLUserDetails
....
result not unique

Environment

  • Tableau Server 10.0
  • Site SAML for Tableau Server

Resolution

  • Ensure no other user account has an email address that matches the username of the user that cannot login (other than the user themselves).
  • If a second user has an email address that matches the username of the impacted user, change the second user's email address or delete their account.

Cause

The username entry is duplicated in the "site_saml_users" table of Tableau's internal repository.

Modifying a user's email should not modify their username in the site_saml_users table as this can cause duplicate username entries in the table, our team is aware and investigating this issue.
