Error "Server returned nothing" Connecting to Published Data Sources

Issue

When you try to connect to a published data source through a load balancer, the following error might occur:
 
Internet communication error: Server returned nothing (no headers, no data) (<load balancer URL>).

Unable to connect to the server "<load balancer URL>". Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database.

Environment

  • Tableau Server
  • Tableau Desktop
  • Load balancer

Resolution

Enable the X-Forwarded-ProtoX-Forwarded-For, and X-Forwarded-Host headers.
Note: The X-Forwarded-For header must include the IP addresses of any proxy servers that are traversed between the client and the server.
